We’re celebrating the 1st birthday of our Agile eBook!
It has been one year since we launched our eBook on Agile Automation. To celebrate, we’ve updated the foreword and included a brand new automation checklist! As we take the moment to mark this occasion, we wanted to take some time to reflect on the State of Software Testing, and how Automation fits in with it.
The architecture of applications is evolving, which, in turn, can have an influence on DevOps pipelines and testing; well-architected systems build faster and test more easily. When we wrote this eBook last year, we set out to answer some of the key questions that relate to how automated functional testing can fit into Agile, and to a larger degree, Continuous Delivery.
In 10 simple steps, the eBook explains how to automate testing. It is based on real world experiences, and projects that we’ve done for our valued clients. Automated testing has increasingly become the ‘oil in the machine’ in all of these environments. The more powerful, stable, and fast the automated tests are, the more they help enable optimal CI/CD pipelines. This is in large part fueled by good modularized test design, which is something we discuss in steps 1 & 3.
In DevOps, the tester finds him or herself more of an integral part of the team, contributing ideas to questions like what tests to run, when to run them in the pipeline, and in what configurations. Good test design is an essential vehicle for that. What most refer to as Continuous Testing is becoming what we, at LogiGear, refer to as a test design challenge, rather than just a technical one.
We are happy to celebrate the anniversary of this important eBook, and pause to consider how the testing landscape has changed and matured over the past year. But there is still much to be done. Businesses can’t expect to be successful in DevOps without having a successful automation practice in place. On the bright side, we’re always here to help you on your journey.
